Modern Atlanta - call for entries for 2nd MA Prize Competition: Green Dwelling
Modern Atlanta (MA) Invites Global Entries for Its Second MA Prize Competition: Green Dwelling
Winning entries will be exhibited during MA12 ‘Design is Human’ Week from June 1-10 in Atlanta
ATLANTA, April 2, 2012 – Again this year, Modern Atlanta (MA), celebrating design excellence during a weeklong series of events in Atlanta, will hold its annual MA Prize competition and invites entries from all over the world. The 2012 MA Prize winners, carefully selected by a prestigious international jury, will be exhibited at this year's MA12 ‘Design in Human Week’ in Atlanta (June 1-10).
This year, designers are asked to submit projects that consider today’s notions of sustainability as applied to the modern dwelling. The MA Prize aims to highlight projects of all sizes that showcase a critical investigation into sustainable design practices in the home, as well as projects that thoughtfully deal with unique geographical, social, political or cultural conditions.
According to Bernard McCoy, MA Founder, “This year's award is open to not only products or architecture, but also simple processes or concepts. Our MA Prize aims to consider ideas of all scales and typologies as long as it has the goal of creating healthier domestic life, environmentally, psychologically, or physiologically.”
All submissions must be received by May 1, 2012, and will be reviewed by an international jury, including Jill Fehrenbacher, Founder of Inhabitat, Matteo Caimi, Partner at C&A Architecture, MA Director of Architecture & Design, Iben Falconer, Business Development Manager at BIG Bjarke Ingels Group, and other renowned designers and scholars. The first prize winner will be awarded $1,000 and the second prize winner $500. In addition to the prize winners, twelve honorable mentions will be selected. Last year’s MA Prize winner was Gadeokdo Island Masterplan by Joyce Hsiang, Elijah Huge, and Bimal Mendis.
MA12 ‘Design is Human’ Week features a citywide series of programs that highlights design excellence in many areas of life: architecture, interior design, visual arts, and social responsibility. Modern Atlanta was created in 2007 by Bernard McCoy and Elayne DeLeo, MA Co-Founder and Event Director. Hansgrohe, the preeminent manufacturer and global pioneer in the Kitchen and Bath industry, is a major sponsor of this year’s MA12.
Plan B Architecture and Urbanism, last year's MA Prize winners, are attending MA12 and will be featured as speakers in the MA Talks series at the High Museum.
Most MA12 ‘Design is Human’ Week events are free and will take place at various venues throughout Atlanta, including the Sound Table’s Space2 in the Edgewood Design District, and the Woodruff Arts Center/High Museum of Art. Tickets to the Home Tour (Athens and Atlanta) are $35 per person which includes entry to the June 8 MA Design Exhibition & Home Tour Launch event.
