Inman Middle Student Wins 2nd Place at Technology Fair
Karin Wilksa created a multimedia project and won 2nd place among 8th graders in the State.
Karin Wilksa is an 8th grade transfer student at Inman Middle School, who has hit the ground rolling at her new school and is already bringing a trophy home to her new classmates from the State Technology Fair.
Karin placed 2nd in the Multimedia category for 8th graders, for a film she created in math class. According to APS' TalkUp Blog, her project set out to explain mathematical functions by using photo drawings, text, and a voice-over.
“I was not expecting to win and was really surprised when I won,” Karin said in the APS Blog. “I decided to do a little more than what was required for my math project, and my teacher submitted it for the APS Technology fair, but I didn’t expect to go this far.”
Karin, who took part in the fair on March 9, recently transferred to Atlanta from Finland. She has had to adjust to new friends, classmates, and being in a much larger school than in Finland.
Karin enjoys drawing and hopes to become an architect, engineer, or software designer. Next year, she will return to Finland, but not without a class of new friends and bragging rights for her state-wide prize.
Max Nevins, an Inman Middle School 7th grader, also participated in the statewide competition which included about 700 participants.
