A person attempted to steal a backpack on Friday from a car parked at Alon’s Bakery in Morningside, according to witnesses.
The person tried to break a back window of a car with a rock and take a child's backpack in the back seat, according to an e-mail sent to the community.
The attempt was unsuccessful and the person fled from the parking lot.
“This exemplifies the need to keep parked cars cleaned out at all times, even in busy parking lots,” Virginia-Highland safety chair John Wolfinger said in an e-mail to residents.
The Clean Car Campaign, organized by the Atlanta Police Department, also reminds residents to remove all valuable items from cars to avoid car break-ins.

This incident occurred about 830 a.m. This was followed by a successful (for the perp anyway) car break-in the same morning at the parking lot behind the North Highland Avenue post office.
