Local Craft Brewers Descend on Virginia-Highland Establishments
Mondays just got much better
It all started with a group of business-guys in an Atlanta Bible study...
Sounds more like the beginning of a new non-profit to serve the homeless rather than a new company to serve up beer. On their site, Monday Night Brewing even reminds guests that “The Bible [is] where Jesus’ first miracle was to make more wine to keep a party going.”
In an effort to get to know each other better, three Atlanta residents started getting together on Monday nights and brewing beer in their homes. More friends joined in the brew-haha (pun intended) and five years later, two brand new locally crafted beers are hitting our neighborhood bars.
Monday is the night this group of guys carved out to spend time together in their tasty beer-creating hobby. It also well-reflects their company theme that “weekends are overrated.”
The brewers say “it’s not about living for the weekend, but about enjoying every day as much as you can.”
This is actually a very Biblical outlook on life: “There is nothing better for a man than that he should eat and drink, and make his soul enjoy good in his labor. This also I saw, that it is from the hand of God.” Ecclesiastes 2:24.
The two other keys to their Monday night focus are quality over quantity and friendship.
“Beers should be savored, not guzzled,” they say.
Monday Night Brewing also believes that taking the time to grab a delicious beer with a friend can foster relationship, which is hugely important in each of their lives.
The Brewers Behind the Beer
Jeff Heck, the CEO and “Supreme Beer Chancellor” is a Harvard grad with a background in private equity.
Joel Iverson, the Operations Director and “Taste-testing Ninja” aptly went to a University with a sub-mascot named the Wahoo after the fish which can drink twice its weight (University of Virginia) and has been working in operations consulting in Atlanta.
Jonathan Baker, the Marketing Director and “Master of Mind Control” is who you can thank for their equally crafty brand as beer. He graduated from Emory University and works in marketing and strategy consulting.
Currently, Monday Night Brewing has two beers on the market.
Eye Patch Ale is labeled as a “crisp, drinkable IPA.” It is full of “sweet caramel, citrusy flowers and swashbuckling adventure abound with every pint.”
Draft Kilt Scotch Ale is full-bodied but not overpowering. It is also “smoky, but not in a creepy bar kind of way. Sweet, but not obnoxiously so… a dark, malty bombshell of a beer.”
