Meeting to Discuss Morningside Sewage Project Rescheduled

The Department of Watershed Management rescheduled a public meeting to discuss constructing a sewer relief system off Cheshire Bridge Road

The city of Atlanta Department of Watershed Management rescheduled a public meeting to discuss constructing sewer relief tanks off Cheshire Bridge Road.

Concerned residents and business owners will meet with city officials on Thursday, June 28, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Rock Springs Presbyterian Church, 1824 Piedmont Ave., to talk about the project.

The department is working through the details of building two 10-12 million gallon raised overflow tanks off Cheshire Bridge Road at 2061 Liddell Dr., behind . The tanks would be about 15-30 feet above ground.

Other parts of the system including the pumping station and electrical station would be built on the flood plain at 2001 Cheshire Bridge Rd., near the north end of Lenox Road. The property is owned by Salem Broadcasting.

The city initially planned to build the overflow tanks off Zonolite Road then relocated the project off Briarcliff Road near Druid Hills. Both locations were taken off the table after residents and business owners fought against building the project.

The proposed Cheshire Bridge project would tunnel diluted sewage overflow under Cheshire Bridge Road to the Liddell Road tanks. The tanks would only be used when the main tanks are overcapacity.

An initial community meeting was cancelled last month "due to issues that have to be addressed with internal stakeholders."
