New Highland Park Christened on Saturday
Grand opening celebrations are scheduled for noon-2 p.m., including music and picnic meals for purchse from Osteria 832 and Atkins Park.
Virginia-Highland residents will celebrate the opening of a new park at the corner of N. Highland Avenue and St. Charles Avenue.
The Virginia-Highland Civic Association says the rain garden/green space will be ushered in by a celebration Saturday, with music by local musician Darin Seldes, picnic lunches, crafts and kid-friendly activities.
The Civic Association and the Virginia-Highland Conservation League bought the land with the goal of conserving green space in the neighborhood. Plans for the nearly half-acre lot surround a bio-retention demonstration project, which includes a slope to capture rain water.
To celebrate the new park, the Ten Thousand Villages store in Virginia-Highland is also donting 10 percent of proceeds to the park in March, if certain conditions apply, including presenting an in-store flyer. For more details on that offer, go to the Civic Associations website.
