News Nearby: Indian Street Food Restaurant Moving Into Old Watershed
Chai Pani is expanding from its base in Asheville, N.C. Meanwhile, another Asheville favorite, Tupelo Honey, is looking for a place in Atlanta and is very interested in Decatur.
The old Watershed restaurant in Decatur, empty for more than a year, will soon have a new tenant.
Chai Pani, which serves Indian street food in Asheville, N.C., will move into the old Watershed restaurant location on West Ponce de Leon, Tomorrow's News Today - Atlanta reported in a story on Thursday.
Chai Pani's website says its run by a husband and wife team, Meherwan & Molly Irani. Meherwan, the executive chef, says:
It seems that the typical Indian restaurant is in a rut – the ubiquitous lunch buffet, white table cloths & ornate plates, slightly austere service, and a predominantly North Indian menu. I wanted to bring the rest of India to the table – the colorful, vibrant & exquisite flavor profiles, the innovative regional diversity, the fun, excitement & bright flavors of street food and the refinement & comfort of home cooking.
The deal was first tweeted Wednesday by Bill Addison of Atlanta magazine.
Tomorrow's News Today also reports that another Asheville eatery, Tupelo Honey, is looking for an Atlanta location and is checking out Decatur. Tupelo Honey recently opened a restaurant in Knoxville.
Farm Burger, which is based in Athens and has a restaurant in Decatur, also plans to open a place in Asheville.
