Thee three ZIP codes that cover most of the Virginia-Highland/Druid Hills community - 30306, 30307 and 30324 - have donated more than half a million dollars to President Barack Obama and Gov. Mitt Romney, according to the Federal Election Commission.
Obama raised about $4 for every $1 that Romney has received from these neighborhoods, according to a review of the data. Overall, Obama has raised a little more than $400,000 in the area since April 2011 and Romney has raised a little more than $102,000 in the same time period.
Obama has the lead in contributions made by people who donated $1,000 or more in a single payment. The president got donations of $1,000 or more from 103 people in the three ZIP codes versus 43 big-dollar donations for Romney.
Donors from Virginia-Highland/Druid Hills who listed Emory, Emory Healthcare or the Centers for Disease Control overwhelming threw their support to Obama. Not a single donation for Romney was listed for people who listed those employers and put down their address as being in the 30306, 30307 or 30324 ZIP.
