Police Arrest Suspect in Poncey-Highland Homicide

Atlanta Police arrested Antonio Johnson on Monday for the November murder of Lee Lowery III.

Atlanta Police made an arrest, Monday, in the murder of 20-year-old Lee Lowery III, who was found shot in the breezeway of a Ponce de Leon Avenue apartment complex on Nov. 12.

A press statement from Sgt. Greg Lyon with the APD Public Affairs Unit said that police arrested Antonio Johnson, 22, after responding to a vehicle accident at Parkway and Felton Drive. Johnson was taken into custody when officers discovered he was wanted for murder. He is now in Fulton County Jail.

Lowery grew up in the Highlands area of the neighborhood and attended Grady High School.

A day after the shooting Atlanta Police released a video showing the moments that led to the fatal shooting in the breezeway of the Ford Factory Lofts, located in the Poncey-Highland neighborhood next to the Ponce City Market development.

The video showed the suspect trying to grab a package from the unsuspecting victim. Police said a struggle then ensued that resulted in the suspect fatally injuring Lowery with a gunshot to the chest.

In addition to Johnson, a second suspect, an unidentified individual driving a getaway vehicle, is believed to still be at-large and the case remains open according to police investigators.

what was in the package should not be a wonder. What you should wonder is when is APD going to arrest who the "package" was going to.

the 3 charges set up nicely for a death penalty case under Georgia law, with the aggravating circumstances (felony murder, i.e. robbery and murder, and also possession of handgun to commit murder. Love those video cameras, there will be a better shot of his face on the parts not released. The police figured out it was him quickly after the crime, now to get him to flip on the getaway driver

Ironic he was arrested just blocks from the scene of the crime. Ironic he was arrested by a beat cop and not the fugitive squad member.

Provincialism is rampant in the black community. He simply had no other place to go; i.e. in his mind. We think we live in a bigger world because we have a different lifestyle. But take away the income, transportation, and good neighborhood and we all tend to stay in one area.

There's still another person involved with this crime besides the getaway driver. How did they know where to be, what time, and who to assail? They should be looking at the receiver.
