Maj. Keith Meadows, commander of the Atlanta Police Department's Zone 6, sat down with Patch this week to discuss concerns in the different neighborhoods and various initiatives he's undertaken to address them.

So don't park and walk...pay $6 or more to park in a lot...to make it "easier" for zone 6 to patrol?

Parking you're vehicle In a lot with an attendant would reduce your chances of becoming a victim. We expect our officers to aggressively patrol their respective service areas, we are simply looking for ways to work in partnership with our communities. I believe if we all work together we can tackle the increase in car break-ins.

Thanks for your response. I park at my home in VaHi as do my guests and friends when we visit places in the neighborhood. That's my concern--that the lots are viewed as the safe place and residents' streets and cars are not patrolled as aggressively. I appreciate the reassurance that that won't change!

You are right Lynn we are noticing an increase in break-ins on the residential streets. We are starting to move our discretionary units into those areas that we feel are most vulnerable. It's no easy task but I'm optimistic about the strategies we are putting in place.
