In an effort to save money, Atlanta Public Schools administrators plan enforce a one-mile walk zone at elementary schools citywide and a 1.5-mile walk zone at middle and high schools.
Bus transportation will not be offered to students that live within the walk zone.
Instead, these students are encouraged to bike or walk to school.
The walk zones have been an established policy at the district for many years, district spokesman Keith Bromery told Patch on Wednesday.
But in an effort to cut costs district-wide, Superintendent Erroll B Davis, Jr. and his administration plan to enforce the rule this school year.
District officials released preliminary walk zones this week and parents can provide feedback to bus captains through Friday.

Wow. This is going to create an almighty logjam at MES for drop-off/pick-up. It's hard to understand how the amount that APS saves for MES will outweigh the tremendous traffic and safety problems this 'savings' will cause.

Picture is not showing up for me on Chrome or IE. Hmmmm...... 1 mile is a lot though. That's like MES down to DBA BBQ at least. No kid will walk that far.
