Residents, Business Owners Talk Cheshire Bridge Sewer Tanks

Some residents were upset Monday over the format of the meeting, which was an informal discussion instead of a forum Q&A setting. Other residents and business owners were concerned the project was "a done deal" and lacked public input

Residents and businesses owners met with city officials Monday night about the proposed sewer tank and pumping station off Cheshire Bridge Road.

"This is really a setup," LaVista Park resident Michelle Pearson said. "It’s clear the deal has already been closed."

Many of the roughly 50 residents and business owners at the meeting agreed with Pearson and said the project lacked any public input and seemed to be a done deal.

The tank would be about 25 feet tall and 185 feet wide, with a pumping station and electrical station on the flood plain at 2001 Cheshire Bridge Rd., near the north end of Lenox Road.

Initially, the tank was designed to be 55 feet tall, but city officials nixed that plan after hearing many complaints about the size of the tank. Instead, most of the tank will be buried into the ground.

Some community members were upset with the format of the meeting — an informal opportunity to talk with city employees and engineers tasked with working on the project. Attendees seem to expect a more traditional, Q&A style forum similar to .

A spokesperson for the city of Atlanta Department of Watershed Management Department said there are plans to hold a third community meeting, but the format of the meeting is uncertain.

These plans do not reflect the change in the height of the tank.
