Street Food Craze Hits Virginia-Highland

Residents weather the storm to kick off Food Truck Wednesday

The popular Atlanta food trucks rolled into the Virginia-Highland neighborhood Wednesday evening despite overcasts skies for opening night of the “Virginia Highland Food Truck Wednesdays.”

Food truck vendors Yumbii, Tex's Tacos, Sweet Auburn Barbecue, SliderU, Yum Yum Cupcake and the King of Pops were on the scene offering a smorgasbord street food delicacies.

This was not your typical collection of festival foods like bloomin’ onions and funnel cakes.

Instead, there were home-style delights ranging from handmade tacos and quesadillas, and slow smoked barbecue to desserts such as gourmet cupcakes and homemade frozen treats.

We decided on a carne asada taco and lime fries from Tex’s Tacos. The lime salt does amazing things to the crispy fries and the fresh warm taco was truly among the best I’ve ever eaten.
