Pat Benatar Kicks Off Botanical Garden Concerts

Movie Shooting at Masquerade Needs 'Hipsters'

The movie "Endless Love" is scheduled to film at the Shaky Knees Music Festival this weekend.

The movie "Endless Love"  is looking for "hipsters" when the project films at the Masquerade Music Park and in the Old Fourth Ward this weekend. The Hipsters are needed Sunday, May 5. The Facebook post by Tammy Smith Casting-Atlanta in part reads: Casting 18-30 yr old HIPSTERS!! to work on Sun 5/5 for a scene that will take place at the Shaky Knees Music Festival (INDIE ROCK BANDS!) ...for the feature film "Endless Love" starring Alex Pettyfer and Gabriella Wilde Tammy Smith Casting lists all the submission instructions on the Facebook site. The Shaky Knees Music Festival is taking place at Historic Fourth Ward Park and Masquerade Music Park.

Trethewey To Join American Academy of Arts and Sciences

U.S. Poet Laureate Natasha Trethewey was chosen to join one of the nation's oldest honorary societies.

U.S. Poet Laureate Natasha Trethewey will be inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Her election to the national honorary society was announced on the webpage for Emory University, where Trethewey is an English professor and director of the creative writing program. Among the 198 new inductees are singers Bruce Springsteen, Pete Seeger and actress Sally Field. The academy website says, "Founded in 1780, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences is an independent policy research center that conducts multidisciplinary studies of complex and emerging problems. 'Anchorman 2' Invaded Manuel's Tavern

It didn't take much effort to make the Poncey-Highland watering hole look like the 1970s.

Manuel's Tavern went back to the 1970s this week. On Wednesday, the tavern was closed all day because a movie crew took over the premises for filming. Manuel's management wasn't allowed to say what movie was being filmed there, but word leaked out it was Anchorman 2, starring Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd. Manager Brian Maloof posted on Facebook, They needed some additional props from the 70's for the time period shoot and we had them in storage. I overheard a guy say 'it is nice we do not need to change many things for this 70's shot.' I am not sure how to take that. Winning PEEPs Contest Entry Honors Work of Habitat for Humanity

Winner Stacie Stamper: "Everybody has a way to give."

  The winner of the Patch Easter PEEPs contest is a diorama that shows a little marshmallow figure in a hard hat helping to build a home while other PEEPs cheer him (or her?) on.  The entry by Stacie Stamper honors the work of the Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore, which helps support the nonprofit’s mission to provide decent housing for low-income people around the world.  "That's so exciting. How fun is that?" Stamper said when she learned that her entry had won. Second place goes to Martin Burrow of Winder, who used jelly beans and a glass jar to create a colorful PEEPs floral arrangement. Share Your Dogwood Festival Pics with Neighbors on Patch

The 77th Dogwood Festival kicks off Friday, and it will have plenty of amazing photo opportunities.

The annual Dogwood Festival held at Piedmont Park marks the official start of spring for many Atlantans as the beautiful Dogwoods are in full bloom. The much-anticipated event kicks off Friday and lasts through Sunday. This year marks the 77th year of the free festival, where hundreds of artists will set up their tents and approximately 200,000 people will come out for the wide array of art, the live music and delicious food.   Festival Hours Friday noon - 10 p.m. Saturday 10 a.m. - 11 p.m. Sunday 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Artist market closes at 7 pm on Friday and Saturday.
