US Poet Laureate is at Emory; Carlos Museum attracts more than 120,000 visitors annually; Schwartz Performing Arts Center is the busiest building on campus; the "Emory Wheel" wins journalism awards regularly--the arts and journalism certainly matter far more at Emory than this simplistic cartoon suggests.

Really Gary Hauk? You're trying to equate a student newspaper (which the university doesn't fund a dime of by the way) to Emory providing students with the expertise and learning experiences that come with having an actual journalism department? As both a Wheel and Journalism department alumn, I can say that the Wheel never came close to teaching me the skills that I picked up as a journalism major. And thanks to the classes and relationships I developed in that program, I had incredible internship experiences open up to me that would have been impossible to get if my only background was just a student newspaper. Mr Hauk, if your going to shill for what the administration is doing then at least do the Emory community the courtesy of admitting that these areas being cut truely don't matter to you. The lack of honesty is certainly not new for you guys, but it also has never been any more frustrating than it is now.

So why exactly are you cutting the arts and journalism?? It looks like they are doing a lot of good on campus (and outside campus).

The cartoon is meant to depict the message that the current administration is sending by cutting arts and journalism in favor of more "traditional" liberal arts endeavors. The fact that these cuts have been met with such universal disgust across campus should be an indication of just how much they matter. If you want to make arts at Emory stronger, please rescind the cuts.
