Paolo's beat Yoforia and Yogli-Mogli
Paolo's Gelato was voted the best place for a frozen treat by Patch readers this week. The Paolo's location on Virginia Avenue in the heart of Virginia-Highland opened in 1999. A second location later opened in South Carolina. The shop features a variety of Gelato flavors and desserts. Paolo's beat out Yoforia and Yogli-Mogli to win the crown. Three women’s boutiques also among latest round of confirmed retailers for new development
West Egg owners are taking on a new adventure. The team behind the popular Westside eatery will open The General Muir, a Jewish-style deli, at Emory Point on Clifton Road. The Jewish deli will serve traditional deli classics, from pastrami and corned beef to chopped liver, smoked fish, and hand-rolled kettle-boiled bagels. The menu will also include innovative takes on traditional deli and Jewish dishes. The restaurant will have a bar, coffee shop and pastry counter. It will be open for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch. Emory Point is a mixed-use project under construction that will bring retail space and apartments to the vacant lot across from the Centers for Disease Control and just down the street from Emory University. …

Event to benefit Canine Companions for Independence
Diesel Filling Station is partnering with the Atlanta Dog Wizard to present Dog Daze, a doggie themed afternoon on Sunday, May 20, during Atlanta Streets Alive. With the help of Justin Hall — the Atlanta Dog Wizard and trainer extraordinaire — Dog Daze will take over the patio at Diesel Filling Station, 870 Highland Ave., and feature dog-themed contests, raffles, exhibitions, treats and toys. For the pet owners, Diesel will feature food and drink specials including the Carlos Spicy Wiener, a specialty bacon wrapped hotdog, flash fried and topped with cheddar, roasted jalapeños and a cilantro ranch. Chef Hector Santiago is looking for a new location for the popular lunch spot
A popular Poncey-Highland sandwich shop closed its doors on Tuesday. Chef Hector Santiago of Super Pan, the Latino sandwich shop at 1057 Blue Ridge Ave., announced Tuesday his plans to close the doors to the current location. He said he and his wife plan to re-open the shop in a larger space to include a fully bakery and coffee shop. They also own Pura Vida, the Latin American tapas restaurant located next door to Super Pan. “While Super Pan has received great press and reviews, and has wonderful loyal customers, the foot traffic in the area is not enough to support the high labor, high food cost concept in its current location,” Santiago said in a statement. The Fulton County Board of Assessors is preparing to mail Annual Notices of Assessment to more than 331,000 property owners. The notices are scheduled to be mailed on Monday May 14. Property owners who disagree with the current year value on the notice have until June 28 to file an appeal. This year, Fulton County will offer online appeal filing. Property owners are encouraged to utilize the online feature to expedite receipt and processing of appeals. Property owners can call and request in-person meetings and telephone conferences with a staff appraiser to discuss and resolve issues pertaining to their property value. Didn't realize Darkhorse had such a poor health score. We stopped by for drinks and aps last night (5/18/12). My girlfriend ended up with a large black hair in the spinach dip. Absolutly disgusting. Love this place for drinks but will not be eating here again!   more ›
