The Emory University men's lacrosse team competed in the 24th Annual SELC Tournament, playing a quarterfinal game on Friday, April 29, at Northview High School against the eventual Division II Champion SCAD (Savannah College of Art & Design) Bees. The Eagles were on a quest for a third trip to the MCLA National Tournament, but couldn't get past the solid defense of SCAD, losing to the Bees 13-7.
An impressive final day showing helped Emory University win the women’s 2011 UAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, with the men finishing fourth, at the Woodruff PE Center on Saturday afternoon. A distant third with 45 points after day one, the women went on to win five running events, finishing with 202 points. Case Western was a distant second with 133 points. Women's runner Alix Dyer was a standout on the track, winning the 100-meter (12.40), 200-meter (25.47) events and was part of the victorious 4x400meter relay team. Emory filled the top-three spots for the women's 200 meters, …
It was a slugfest on the diamond between Emory University (24-12) and Oglethorpe University (16-15) Tuesday, but in the latter stages, it came down to pitching, and Emory’s staff prevailed as the Eagles won 13-9. “The kids put together some runs after they scored some runs on us,” Emory head coach Mike Twardoski said. “We were able to come back each time. They did a great job.” The Eagles spotted junior right-hander Paul Schwendel a four-run lead in the third, highlighted by senior outfielder Patrick Riebsame’s three-run blast. However, that wouldn’t last long as both squads duked it out …
Saturday was Senior Day for the softball team at Emory University (32-2-1) and the No. 2-ranked Eagles celebrated with three-straight victories over two teams. In the process, head coach Penny Siqueros reached a milestone 400th victory.  A noon start commenced with a sweep of Rhodes College, 5-2 and 5-4, before the Eagles trounced Spelman College, 13-0. "The games against Rhodes were intense. They're a good club…they're not one of those teams that's going to roll over, and what I'm proud of is that they [Emory] came from behind in both games," said Siqueros, who noted the contribution of her …
Perhaps the best way to make a fourth run at a national title is to have a perfect season. However, while Emory University’s softball team’s run at perfection is no longer an option; the dream of hoisting a championship trophy is still a possibility. Emory, which is ranked No. 1 in the polls, reeled off 26 wins in a row before falling to No. 8-ranked DePawu College, 7-6, Thursday in the opening of a doubleheader. The Eagles led 6-5 heading into the top of seventh, but the Tigers posted a two-run four-hit inning to give Emory its first defeat of the year.   In the nightcap, the teams played to…
DRUID HILLS — The Emory University Eagles (18-4, 9-2) won their fifth straight game Sunday afternoon in an unconventional fashion, 91-87 over the visiting University of Chicago Maroons (8-14, 5-6). Leading by as many as 17 points in the second half, the Maroons went on a 27 to eight run in a roughly seven minute span to take the lead and force the contest into overtime. “They played a lot better in the second half and we didn’t play very well in the second half,” Emory head coach Jason Zimmerman said. “They had a lot to do with that. But I thought we kept fighting, we could have packed it in…
