Emory University hosted the 30th annual Carter Town Hall for first-year students on Wed., Sept. 14. Former President Jimmy Carter fielded questions from first-year students on a wide range of topics, including questions about Sarah Palin, the Republican presidential field, and if Republicans are purposely trying to slow down economic recovery.
Emory University business and finance professor Jeff Rosensweig said there are three things business leaders want to hear from President Obama to encourage hiring: deregulation, tax reform and a more positive message. "We’re at a time now when the stock market has fallen, the economy seems to be slowing down, [the government is] worried about the problems in Europe with their debt problem," Rosensweig said. The Emory University class of 2015 moved into the dorms on the main campus in Druid Hills last weekend. Roughly 1,400 new students gathered on the quad to commemorate the beginning of their stay at Emory.
Emory University volunteers set up chairs for graduation, which takes place Monday morning at 8 a.m. It took 90 volunteers roughly three hours to set up 14,000 chairs.
The first students that benefited from the Emory Advantage financial aid program are graduating in May. Emory Advantage, a financial aid program at Emory University, helps low and middle-income families afford college tuition.  It provides full tuition, room and board for some students and caps loans at $15,000 for others.

Six Tibetan Buddhist monks are studying science at Emory University as part of the Emory-Tibet Science Initiative. Since 2008, Emory professors have traveled to Dharamsala, India to teach monks and nuns science, but this year, six monks came to Emory to learn.
