The most SOLEful race is coming to Atlanta Mother’s Day weekend, Saturday, May 11, 2013. My Mother has Sole Family Fun Run (MMHS) is a race that seeks to encourage families to make healthy living a priority.  Research has shown that families who participate in healthy behaviors such as eating together, exercising, and, going on family outings have higher levels of psychological well-being and cohesiveness.  This race was conceived by three community focused individuals who have a common background working with youth and families.  The team met while working with the non-profit, Communities In Schools (CIS) of Atlanta.  CIS of Atlanta is an award-winning dropout prevention organization that was established in Atlanta in 1972. For more information on CIS of Atlanta please visit www.cisatlanta.org.  This shared work experience along with their individual efforts, opened their eyes to the various issues impacting youth and families, to include poverty, poor health, low-education, and other issues important to healthy family functioning.  The trio also recognize and celebrate the many strengths of families that keep them resilient, optimistic, and unified. It was from this lens that Mike, Nicole, and Sherlina fortified their decision to coordinate My Mother has Sole Family Fun Run/Walk. The  most important feature of MMHS Family Fun Run is that it is a locally organized run making a direct positive impact on Atlanta families.  As such all the proceeds from the race will benefit Nicholas House Homeless Shelter.
