Weekend Fun - UGA Talk; Live Jazz; Tasty Watermelons; and More

Five can't-miss events for your weekend in and around our Virginia Highland-Druid Hills Patch.

Civil War film: A movie titled Jewish Soldiers in Blue and Gray will be shown on Thursday at the Cyclorama, located at 800 Cherokee Avenue. A reception with filmmaker Jonathan Gruber will be held at 6:30 p.m., followed by the movie.

History for Bulldogs: Carrol Dadisman will talk about his new book, Dear Old UGA, a history of the school told through stories from the student newspaper, The Red and Black. He's a former editor for the paper. 7:15 p.m. Thursday at the Decatur Library. Presented by the Georgia Center for the Book. Free.

Jazz on the Lawn: Composer and jazz keyboard artist Madoca and her band will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Callanwolde Arts Center. Bring a blanket to sit on. $15 in advance, $20 at the door.

Peace, Love and Watermelon: Free watermelon 5-8 p.m. Saturday at Candler Park as part of the pre-movie festivities.

Music in the Park: Emory Point’s Summer Concert Series wraps up Saturday with Music in the Park presented by The Electromatics. The band will perform from 5-8 p.m. on the east end of the Emory Point property, adjacent to General Muir and Bonefish Grill. Enjoy the music while you shop, or dine out in one of Emory Point’s great restaurants.
