16th Street Bombing Survivor Keynote Speaker at Indiana University on MLK Day

Metro Atlanta resident Barbara A. Cross will serve as keynote speaker for three separate events during Indiana University’s celebration of the national observance of the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

 

Ms. Cross shares her historical perspective and survivor experience with audiences nationwide.  She has been a guest on the Montel Williams Show and has also appeared on the Oprah Show.  In addition, she appeared with her father, the former pastor of the 16th Street Baptist Church, in the Oscar-nominated Documentary, “Four Little Girls” directed by renowned film producer, Spike Lee.

Her father, Rev. John Cross, testified at all of the subsequent trials of the men indicted for the infamous crime in Birmingham.  She testified during the 2002 trial.  On February 14, 2004, Barbara accepted commemorative pins struck by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in recognition of the significant role she and her father played in the prosecution of the case.

Ms. Cross received an invitation to recapitulate her experience in The Oral History Project at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute on October 15, 2012.  She is a much sought-after speaker and travels across the United States in pursuit of the opportunity to spread a message of forgiveness and to share the rich legacy of the most historic years of the Civil Rights era.
