Ansley Park Security Alert Ahead of The Jazz Festival this Weekend

The Jazz Festival is on Saturday May 25, Sunday May 26 and Monday May 27.

Ansley Park residents were alerted this week to be extra careful and cautious this weekend during the Atlanta Jazz Festival at Piedmont Park, which will again bring thousands of visitors throughout the neighborhood and surrounding areas.

According to the Ansley Park Civic Association newsletter, "the Security Patrol will be adding 6 extra shifts (two each day) to help with the crowds."

The leaders of the security patrol urge residents to, "take extra precautions and lock your doors and windows, and don't leave anything in your vehicle."

Within the Ansley Park Alert, the security patrol listed a number of the recent crimes in the area.

The following is what they want residents in the area to be aware of:

- There was an armed robbery in Piedmont Park on May 3 near the 10th Street side.

- There has been an increase in phones being snatched from pedestrians, one taken from the hand of a driver stopped at a red light and several stolen in stores, including one taken from a child as he sat with his parents at a sidewalk cafe.

- Always travel the Beltline with a companion and be aware of your surroundings.  The APD is adding more officers, but there are still incidents of people being robbed.

- A scam that is going on involves perpetrators ramming the back of cars, and when the driver and passengers get out, the bad guys steal the car with all its contents.  Sergeant Poole suggests the following:

1.  Do Not exit your vehicle, but lock the doors, put on your flashing lights and call 911 to report the accident.

2.  Leave the vehicle in gear in case you need to escape quickly.

3.  Watch your mirrors to see what actions the individual(s) in the vehicle that struck you is taking.

4.  If multiple subjects exit the vehicle and approach your vehicle rapidly or you feel threatened, leave the area and call 911.
