Boxer Joe Louis Exhibit Coming to Emory

Opening reception on Nov. 13 is free and open to the public.

The life and legacy of boxing great Joe Louis will be told through a traveling exhibit coming to Emory.

The exhibit is based on photographs, periodicals and archival materials from Emory University’s Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library (MARBL). The boxer's son, Joe Louis Barrow Jr., is scheduled to speak at the opening event Nov. 13.

"Joe Louis Barrow: A Life and Career in Context" will highlight the boxer's childhood, his family's move to Detroit, his decision to turn professional, his key fights and his Army years.

The opening event is free and open to the public and takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, in the Jones Room at Emory's Robert W. Woodruff Library.
