Festival on Ponce Set for April 14, 15

The festival in Olmsted Linear Park returns for the second year

Organizers of an arts festival in historic Druid Hills announced the two-day event will return in April.

Festival on Ponce — a free arts festival in Olmsted Linear Park — is planned for April 14 and 15.

The festival is set in the chain of parks that landscape architect Frederick Olmsted Sr. designed more than a century ago along Ponce de Leon Avenue in Druid Hills. Olmsted is best known as the man who designed New York's Central Park.

It debuted in 2011 with great success, organizers said last year.

“Instead of moaning about taxes on April 14 and 15, we hope that neighbors and visitors will come see the extraordinary gardens of the Olmsted Linear Park and stay to peruse the 150 local artists who will take up residence there for the weekend! We are very proud that our local artists will be able to draw attention to both the historic parks and the Druid Hills community in a positive way,” Patrick Dennis, President of the Atlanta Foundation for Public Spaces, said this week in a statement.

The festival, which is organized and run by artist volunteers, will feature acoustic music and kid-friendly activities.

“We were bowled over by how successful the Olmsted Linear Park Alliance has not only preserved the parks but enhanced them with their determination and talents. We look forward to a colorful and unique experience for artists and the community by holding an arts festival in spring and again in fall,” Randall Fox, V.P. of the Atlanta Foundation for Public Spaces, said in a statement.
