Concert in memory of 9/11 and much more

Why Go: This year’s Bacchanal fundraiser celebrates the opening of the exhibition "Life and Death in the Pyramid Age: Emory's Old Kingdom Mummy."  This annual benefit event for the Museum will include cocktails in an Egyptian bazaar, food provided by caterers, a DJ, and a raffle to win a trip to New York City with a private tour at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

When/Where: Saturday, 7:30 p.m. at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church, 1790 Lavista Rd. NE

Why Go: Maurice Durufle's Requiem and J.S. Bach's cantata 106, "Actus tragicus," will be presented in this concert as a memorial to the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. In the Requiem, the choir of St. Bartholomew's Church will be joined by an orchestra, soprano Wanda Yang Temko and bass Jason Hardy. In the Bach cantata, a consort of early instruments will perform with an ensemble of 10 professional singers.

Price: $15 adults; $5 students

When/Where: Sunday, 3 p.m. at , 980 Briarcliff Rd. NE

Why Go: “Pipes on Peachtree,” presented by Callanwolde Fine Arts Center and the Atlanta Chapter of the American Theatre Organ Society, offers the opportunity to hear about Atlanta’s long-gone, wonderful movie palaces and neighborhood theatres, their organs and theatre organists of the 1920’s, ‘30’s and ‘40’s.

John Tanner, noted organ technician and historian, and Joe Patten, Atlanta’s “Phantom of the Fox” will present interesting facts and recollections of Atlanta’s movie palace golden age featuring a pictorial tour of the city’s majestic theatres and their organs.

4. Shamrock Forest Clean-Up

When/Where: 9 a.m. Saturday, meet at the Druid Hills (Shamrock) Middle cafeteria

Why Go: Shamrock Forest, located right behind Druid Hills Middle, is not a county park, so it is up to volunteers to maintain it. Please dress in long sleeves and pants and bring gloves, water, shovels, rakes, etc.

When/Where: Clean-up is 9 am Saturday, trail blaze is 12:30 pm Sunday. Both are at Kittredge Park, 1520 Kittredge Park Road, Atlanta

Why Go?: Kittredge Park needs some love too--help build walking trails and take out trash and invasive plants. Tools, gloves and refreshments provided. Wear long pants and work shoes.
