When/Where: Sunday, 12 to 3 p.m. at , 1424 N Highland Ave.

Why Go: The block party: Live music, food & family fun at the finish line in the Morningside Village shopping center.  Noodle eating contest, sumo wrestling, dunk tank, firefighter activities, bouncy house, local vendors, pet adoptions & more provided by Doc Chey's, Morningside businesses & station 19 firefighters.

The race: The 2nd annual Morningside Mile is Atlanta's only 1-mile run with cash prizes.  Great Swag: runners get a technical race hat or shirt, commemorative pint glass, Sweetwater beer or Yoforia frozen yogurt, more.  Runners of all levels from competitive runners to walkers and moms with jog strollers are welcome.  Race starts in Virginia Highland & ends in Morningside.  Registration is $25 by Oct. 15.  Proceeds benefit the restoration of Virginia Highland firehouse 19.

Race registration extended to 10/15.

Why Go: The Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University will hold its inaugural “Winship Win the Fight 5K” to bring the community together in the fight against cancer.

The run/walk will begin and end at Emory University’s McDonough Field complex on Asbury Circle on the west side of the Emory campus.

Why Go: Learn more about space, astronomy and how scientists learn about our universe through hands-on activities and demonstrations.  Also learn how planets stay in orbit, make constellations crafts, talk with real astronomers, play Solar System Bingo, and much more!

Price: Activities included in admission prices; free for members

Why Go: The Candler Park Neighborhood Organization presents the 11th annual Candler Park Fall Fest, a free, neighborhood festival with live music, 100+ artist booths, great food, a kid’s area, a 5K Road Race, and a Tour of Homes.
