Conversation about the number two movie in America in our community

George Lucas's "Red Tails" opened last weekend as the number two movie in America.

The film, which tells the story of the Tuskegee Airmen in World War II, is the talk of the town in many areas, and our neighborhood is no exception.

professor Carol Anderson discussed World War II race relations and explained more about the adversity black soliders faced during the war and when they returned home.

"Here you have black pilots saying 'Let me prove to you how good I am,'" Anderson said in an interview.

Last week, former President Jimmy Carter joined two Tuskegee Airmen at the opening of the George Washington Carver Exhibit at the .

The exhibit — From Slave to Scholar — "traces Carver's work from his childhood to his accomplishments in science and education," according to a report by Fox News.

Red Tails is currently playing at Atlantic Station, the Starlight Drive In, both AMC theaters in Buckhead and AMC North DeKalb Mall. The movie grossed more than $19 million on opening weekend.
