Masquerade to Host Battle of the Beards Contest on Friday

Contest organizers also are collecting toys and raising money for the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Atlanta.

Do your mutton chops make the cut?

Does your French Fork say "ooh, la, la" or is your Dali a work of art?

Michael Albanese, an event promoter and stand-up comedian is looking for few good bearded men (and ladies, too) to participate in the 2012 Battle of the Beards.

Albanese, who hails from Cabbagetown and also is owner of Beard & Stache' Bars, a product line for beard care, is bringing the popular contest back to Atlanta for the second consecutive year.

It is scheduled for Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. at the Masquerade, 695 North Ave. NE in Poncey-Highland.

Those with the most interesting and striking looks can win cash and prizes in several categories ranging from best beard and best stache to best creative and best lady beard, among other categories.

Among the judges are Jim Stacy of PBA's "Get Delicious" and creator of the Pallookaville Corndog empire and Clermont Lounge legend RotKnee.

While the event is designed to be a fun way to celebrate the bearded ones among us, there's a serious part to it, too.

A portion of the proceeds will go to the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Atlanta, Albanese said.

Participants and spectators are asked to bring an unwrapped toy for the Boys & Girls Club, but what's most in need for the children are:

  • Socks
  • Gloves
  • Scarfs
  • Hats
  • Toiletries
  • School/Art Supplies
  • Hoodies
  • Ear buds
  • Bed Sheets
  • Gift Cards
