Virginia-Highland Food Truck Organizer: It's Not the City's Fault

The organizers of Virginia-Highland Food Truck Wednesday said many factors went into the decision to cancel the event

Food trucks will not be rolling through Virginia-Highland this year.

Though the inaugural event was popular in 2011, organizers decided to cancel the event for 2012, citing "permitting issues and other unforeseen circumstances."

"In no way were we hindered by the city," organizer Jordan Baer told Patch Tuesday afternoon. "There’s not really one factor to put more weight on than another."

Baer said organizers were planning an event that included the food trucks on Wednesday evenings in Virginia-Highland, but too many "obstacles" got in the way and he decided to pull the plug.

He declined to comment on the obstacles, but said he never filed an application for a permit.

"I don’t have the time to manage it any more unfortunately," he said. "It wasn’t a decision that we made lightly. Unfortunately, it boiled down to a business decision."

Baer said Main Street Parking, the group that organized Food Truck Wednesdays, will focus on supporting the future food park on Howell Mill Road.

Food trucks parked in the parking lot across the street from on N. Highland Avenue on Wednesday nights from June through fall, and residents flocked to the trucks for dinner every week.

"I know the neighborhood is very fond of it," Baer said. "I live in the neighborhood and I enjoyed going to it."
