Volunteer Need: Educate Congress and the public about global warming and legislative solutions. Make the verbal and written case for specific action items. Write letters to the editors of national and local newspapers and attend monthly national conference calls.

How Often: six hours per month

Nonprofit Gift Shop helpers

Ten Thousand Villages, 1056 St. Charles Ave., Atlanta

Volunteer Need: assist customers, unpack merchandise, create displays, stock shelves, and other tasks related to running a shop

How Often: Various times Tuesday through Sunday

Community Garden Volunteers

Atlanta Community Food Bank

Volunteer Need: Groups of about eight to 25 volunteers, ages 8 and up, are needed throughout the year to improve the quantity and quality of community gardens in Atlanta. Activities include planting, produce collection, clean-up, plant rescues, plant shows and many other fun projects.

How Often: flexible schedule, Monday through Saturday. Most shifts last three hours.
