Want to See MARTA's Plans for Light Rail in the Emory, CDC Area?

The communities in and around the Clifton Corridor are buzzing with excitement about the latest plan to bring a light rail transportation system through the neighborhood.

MARTA's planning staff is giving a full presentation April 9 at 1:30pm in MARTA's sixth floor board room, 2424 Piedmont Rd. NE, Atlanta.

And if you've got an opinion about the whole thing, they'll be taking public comments at that meeting as well.

The line would include service to Emory University and the , two of the largest employers in Atlanta. Current public transportation options only provide bus service to the area.

Here are some of the details about the $700 million proposal from MARTA's site:

The alternative described below is pending approval from the MARTA Board of Directors

• 8.8 miles of light rail double track (includes tunnels and elevated sections)
• 10 light rail station platforms
  • Lindbergh Center (transfer to Red or Gold Lines)
  • Cheshire Bridge
  • Sage Hill
  • CDC/Emory Point
  • Emory-Rollins
  • Emory-Clairmont
  • North Decatur
  • Suburban Plaza
  • DeKalb Medical Center
  • Avondale Station (transfer to Blue Line)
• 3 additional optional stations for consideration
  • Piedmont (transfer to BeltLine)
  • DeKalb Industrial
  • North Arcadia (old DeVry campus)
• 2 Maintenance and/or storage facilities

Whether or not the rail line becomes a reality will come down to a vote this summer on a 1-cent sales tax to raise money for the project.
