The Memoir: Stranger Than Fiction
Students from the Advanced Memoir Seminar will present excerpts from their memoirs-in-progress. This literary performance will also include readings by guest artist, Thaddeus Rutkowski, a New York based award-winning author.
A memoir is not a biography. It is not a balanced portrait. It is the writer’s personal story; his impressions of friends, relatives, mentors and public figures. In the end, it’s a matter of light. It is as if the author stands outside a house at dusk with a flashlight. He can shine light on any window; but once chosen, he must open it all the way and drag the reader in with him through the shadows to the deep, scary stuff. In the Retreat at Callanwolde.
