Guide to 2012 Virginia-Highland Summerfest

Everything you need to know about the weekend festival

The 29th Annual Virginia-Highland Summerfest is merely hours away, and it's about time to prepare yourself for one of the most popular festivals of the season.

Here’s your go-to guide for the two-day event set to kick off this Saturday, June 2:

  • Virginia Avenue will be closed to car traffic from Ponce de Leon Place to N. Highland Avenue.
  • Pets are not permitted.
  • Feel free to ride your bike to Summerfest, but bikes must be locked-up outside the festival area.
  • Parking in Virginia-Highland can be tricky. Organizers encourage you to take MARTA (plan your trip here). There is a limited amount of paid parking at Grace Lutheran Church, 1155 N. Highland Avenue. The lot opens at 9 a.m. on Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday.
  • The artist market is located along Virginia Avenue beside John Howell Park and will feature more than 220 artists from around the southeast.  You’ll find a variety of artwork including painting, sculpture, jewelry, textiles/fiber arts, photography, clay, wood, metal, graphics and mixed media.
  • Kidsfest is located at the edge of John Howell Park near Virginia Avenue and Arcadia. This year’s theme is “Wild Animal Safari” and will include games, crafts, music and activities for kids of all ages. Most activities are free of charge. Patch will have a booth at Kidsfest, so make sure to stop by and say hello!
  • Food vendors will range from festival vendors to local restaurants.
  • Non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks will be available to purchase.
  • The 92.9 dave-fm music stage at Virginia Ave. and Greencove will feature two-days of non-stop music. Headliners include Marc Broussard on Saturday and The Fixx on Sunday (see the full schedule below).
  • Make sure to share your festival photos with the community on our neighborhood photo gallery!
