Dunkin Donuts to Open in Morningside

Coffee joint to open in the shuttered Cottage Ethiopian Restaurant

A new Dunkin Donuts location is reportedly opening at the shuttered Cottage Ethiopian Restaurant on Piedmont Avenue.

Construction crews are working to remodel the soon-to-be coffee joint located on the corner of Rock Springs Road and Piedmont Avenue.

It’s unclear when construction will be complete. Check back with Patch as more details become available.

What's old is new again. Dunkin Donuts used to have its shop where the Subway now operates. One could count on a police presence in the neighborhood just about every night as the officers stopped in for a cup of coffee and a donut. Kentucky Fried Chicken was the original occupant at that site, perhaps 45+ years ago. Since I live in the house my parents built on Wildwood Road in 1952, I remember many of the original shops along that stretch of Piedmont, and I'm happy to see an old friend back in the neighborhood. This is great news! It's always great to say goodbye to an eye sore and hello to a new business.

Thank you for those that provided historical insight on this location. For recent transplants, this information is always interesting. I could tell the location was also a former BK based on the former Ethiopian restaurant’s limited remodeling. I had no idea that it used to be a KFC and that a DD used to be located across the street. I am also excited about DD coming to this stretch of Piedmont. There are many blighted and vacant storefronts on this stretch of road, and DD will remove one of them by offering a product that many people enjoy (cheap and fresh coffee). If cops patronize this store even better, because the retail on Cheshire Bridge attracts some seedy elements. There is a stop light at this intersection so it should be accessible from the north if there is a turn signal. The bigger issue is that there is no signal at all on Montgomery Ferry Drive south of Fat Matts. That intersection has no marked cross walk either. Seriously, that intersection needs some TLC.

My business is next door to the new DD and we are very happy to see this property cleaned up after many years of neglect. Being a corporate store will keep it that way for many years to come. They open officially this Monday AM and if you don't mind parking in the old Artlite parking lot and walking a few extra steps when traffic is bad southbound, you won't have to turn left when Piedmont is congested . Otherwise, use their drive thru when traveling north and see how great their coffee actually is. They've been test feeding me for three days now and I'm hooked! Had no idea they served breakfast and lunch sandwiches so go by and welcome the 16 people they just hired too. TTMTD
