Paris on Ponce Welcomes Beltline Patrol

The store is offering space as an unofficial mini-precinct for the Atlanta police officers who will patrol the Beltline.

A business on Ponce de Leon Avenue is offering space for an unofficial mini-substation to be used by Atlanta police officers who will start patrolling the Beltline in a few weeks, according to WSB-TV.

The station reported,

Paris on Ponce Antique Market is right on the Beltline across from the still-under-construction Ponce City Market. Its owners plan to create an unofficial mini-police substation inside its building starting July 14.

"We basically offered whatever we could do," said Paris on Ponce Manager Nicolette Valdespino. "The idea came up that we were going to do a little substation for them to have their ATVs and bikes and, of course, something for the mounted patrol, too. We'll have hay out there, just a place for them to rest and stop."

Meanwhile, the Virginia Highland Civic Association posted guidelines provided by the Atlanta police for users of the beltline.

  • Be aware of your surroundings at all times.
  • Walk/jog confidently.
  • Look people in the eye as you pass them. This lets others know you are aware.
  • Don’t wear headphones while exercising. Being able to hear your surroundings will allow you to notice someone you don’t see.
  • Wear shoes and clothing that allow freedom of movement.
  • Carry a cell phone with a full battery charge.
  • Carry a whistle with you.
  • Walk or jog in a familiar area.
  • Avoid secluded areas where there are places to hide.
  • Vary the route you take. Do not take the same route every day.
  • Walk or jog with a companion, especially at night.
  • Wear bright colored clothing so that you can easily be seen; at night wear reflective clothing.
  • Lock your vehicle. Don’t leave valuables, such as purses/wallets/cell phones, visible inside.
  • Always let someone know when you begin your walk or jog. Tell them the route you will be taking and when you plan to return. Inform them when you do return.
