Poncey Highland Bike Shop Closes

Atlanta Pro Bicycle on North Highland shut down earlier this month.

Atlanta Pro Bicycle in Poncey Highland closed earlier this month. It operated at 632 N. Highland Ave. in the strip of shops next to the Highland Inn.

It was hard to miss Atlanta Pro Bicycle. A bunch of bicycles were always displayed outside and a giant-sized crank sat in the window.

Atlanta Pro Bicycle owner Chris Micallef explained what happened by email:

The plan was to shut down for a few months while buildout on a new location took place and then reopen even smaller and more humble...also during this interlude, I would've had a chance to settle into my new career path, outside of retail. As it turns out, some folks came in and bought all of my inventory and tools, AWESOME!

So, the world may see APB or GPB or a GBC, again... with an adjoining Cafe` and running shop...? It is certainly a possibility.

The decision wasn't based on poor or lack of business, it was based on wanting to be in a different location, expanding some aspects, concentrating others... and having MORE FUN !!

The business next door, Gems of Africa, an African art shop, recently closed as well but will maintain an online presence.

I never shopped at Atlanta Pro Bicycle but, judging from the Yelp reviews, it was always an interesting place to visit.
