1. How much sleep do we need?

That can vary from person to person and often depends on age. For example, an infant might need as much as 16 hours of sleep while most young to middle-aged adults seem to do best with 7 to 8. As people grow older, this need increases once again. That said, sleep needs can differ between individuals. Ultimately, adequate rest allows you to concentrate on activities and even boring tasks without excessive drowsiness.

2. Okay, let's jump into a few of these tips for getting better rest--and these apply to your kids and the adults, right?

LET THE BED BE THE BED!

Your bed should be reserved for SLEEP and intimacy only. Eating in bed, working on your computer or reading your iPad, watching TV--all of these things interrupt your ability to sleep. I haven't had a television in my bedroom for nearly ten years--it's an excellent way to get better sleep because TV is more stimulating than people realize. Many people talk a lot in bed, too--some talk is okay, but avoid discussing emotional issues. All of these activities are distractions and our best for outside of the bed.
