When Fernbank Elementary students return to class Aug. 12, they'll find themselves inside a different building and four miles from their familiar school.
Fernbank, at 157 Heaton Park Drive, is going to be torn down and rebuilt. During construction, the students will attend classes at Avondale Middle School.
Avondale Middle has been closed since the spring of 2011. The school opened in 2000 and served about 550 sixth, seventh and eighth graders.
