Large Oak Tree Falls at 5th Street and Juniper Taking Down Power Lines

Georgia Power continues to work to restore fallen power lines in the area.

After a weekend full of constant rain and a few thunderstorms, the worst damage seemed to come overnight when a large oak tree fell at the intersection of Juniper and Fifth streets.

According to CBS reports, the 40-foot tree knocked out power to around 50 residents in the area.  Juniper was shut down during early rush hour traffic, so that crews could cut up the tree and re-string the downed power lines.

According to Fox 5, responding emergency crews said that, "the huge oak tree fell down, and the weight of the tree brought down power lines, and snapped a power pole in half."

11Alive says the tree "was uprooted on the property of The Fifth Ivory, a restaurant and piano bar. The tree plunged into the intersection, but was miraculously suspended by the traffic signal wires."

Power has been restored to the area.
