Local Charity Among Finalists in National Contest

Jerusalem House could win $25K

Jerusalem House could win $25,000 with the help of Facebook users.

The local nonprofit is one of four finalists in the Home Depot Aprons in Action contest, which highlights nonprofits Home Depot employees work with on service projects.

The contest is based on Facebook voting, which began June 1 and ends June 30. The nonprofit with the most votes at the end of the month will win $25,000 and be eligible for the grand prize of $250,000 later this year.

“Being selected for the Aprons in Action program is an honor and we are so thankful for the recognition,” Charlie Frew, Executive Director of Jerusalem House, said in a news release. “If we actually win the $25,000 Home Depot gift card, we’ll be able to finally build permanent steps at our Family Program and provide a safe pathway for our child residents to catch their buses for school and for our mother to access public transportation for work and medical treatment."

Jerusalem House competing with Service International in St. Louis, the Abilities Foundation in Seminole, Fla. and the Teen Challenge in Reno, Nev. in the contest.

Home Depot employees nationwide volunteer with local nonprofits and charities to give back to the community, and The Aprons in Action Program is intended to highlight the organizations.

Over the course of the program and contests, roughly 48 nonprofits and charities nationwide will receive a total of $1 million.
