Monday Essentials: Author Apperance at Highland Inn Ballroom

Author event. Jen Sincero, author of “You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life.” will speak at 7 p.m. Monday at the Highland Inn Ballroom at 644 N. Highland Ave. Free.

At the library. The JumpStart Early Literacy Storytime Series will be 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the Ponce de Leon Avenue branch library. Free.

Medical Treasures at Emory. This exhibit includes 18th- and 19th-century works on human anatomy, pathology, surgery, midwifery and alternative medical practices. Through Oct. 31 at the Woodruff Health Sciences Center Library at 1462 Clifton Road NE. Free.

Poetry reading. Sylvia Cross,  author of “Sylvia’s Atomic Café Recipe and Coffee Table Book" and other books, will read Tuesday at a gathering of poets and poetry lovers at Savage Pizza in Avondale Estates. Starts at 7 p.m. Free.
