Photo Contest: Is Your Dog The Top Dog?

Upload a photo of your favorite four-legged family member and your pet could vie to become The Top Dog in Georgia!

Readers - the entry period for this contest has closed. Please come back later this week to vote on the finalists! - The Editor

Everyone knows their dog is the best.

Now, Patch is giving you the chance to prove it with our Top Dog contest.

Entering is simple:

Starting Aug. 6, upload your favorite photo of your dog by clicking the "Upload Photos and Video" button at the top of this article. (It’s super easy – just make sure you are a registered user first). In the caption, tell us your dog’s name and what makes him or her so special. One photo per owner, please.

Dog owners will have until 5 p.m. Aug. 20 to submit a photo of a canine companion.

Five furry finalists will be selected by Patch Regional Editors and then you, dear readers, will get to vote on who is the Top Dog in Georgia.

The prize? A $100 gift card and some cool Patch swag for fido's owner.

We've attached the legal rules to this article in a PDF. And please make note that the winner must agree to be featured in an article on Patch.

It only seems fitting to celebrate the Dog Days of Summer with a contest devoted to Man's Best Friend. So take a moment to share a photo of your dog and join in the fun!

I felt like mentioning my dog is a rescue is an important part of her story, no alterior motives.
Jane Fisher August 6, 2012 at 04:24 pm
Much agreed.

Why is is always about dogs? there are tons of us with cats...and sometimes some with tons of cats...yikes! But seriously, I don't have a dog. I do have cats and they are just as cute, just as loving and loyal, just as much a best friend, and just as much worthy of a prize. Heck, why not open it up to any type of pet...we love all our furry friends...even those that aren't so furry. Top dog...top cat...top bunny...top snake...top rat, mouse, guinea pig, hamster, chinchilla, ferret, fish. Think outside the yard, box...pin...crate...cage...aquarium.

I just hope the judges can overlook the fact that this "editor" neglected to edit before she hit send with our dog's photo. Sheeesh. Red faced here!

All of our dogs are rescues, every dog we've had has been a rescue. We're on 12, 13, and 14 right now. I guess I can't enter them because some people are afraid of the backstory. Dogs, cats, there are plenty that need forever homes.

Bob,
We want you and all of our readers to know that all dogs are welcome in this contest!
bob August 6, 2012 at 09:27 pm
Thank you Anna.

How fun, thanks, Patch! :) Really enjoying everyone's pet dog pictures! Some really funny ones too, especially that one named Tonka that lost a tooth, cracked me up! lol

Noted Anna. I'm with "dazzle"! Perfect looking dog!

I love the idea of this fun contest as a way to show off our canine family members! Although I'm not a cat person, I also agree (and hope) that at some point Patch will do the same for our feline families. And maybe at some point something for our "Pocket Pets" too?
Thanks!

My dog Coco Chanel #415 is our sweet baby girl. She is always wagging her tail, happy as can be. She has brought a lot of joy to our life.

Everyone loves their animals whether they are rescued at a shelter or purchased because they are so wanted! If I were a dog either way would be fine with me as long as I was loved!
D Norton August 13, 2012 at 02:24 pm
i uploaded 2 pics earlier last week and they arent up? Are my furry babies not good enough?
Kelsi Keever August 13, 2012 at 05:37 pm
I tried to delete my original picture (#386) to upload a different one but was unable too. So I have two on here & I am not trying to "cheat", but wanted to delete my original one (the single shot #386), but was unable too. Haha!

David I appreciate your opinion. I'm also a published photograper. Sometimes local photo contests are just about having fun. I fully understand the importance of quality, but these are just fun snapshots.
David Binder August 13, 2012 at 06:19 pm
D I hardly think that's the case. Maybe something about the way your photos were uploaded ? I'll be glad to help you if need be.
Erin Williams August 14, 2012 at 03:11 pm

Tisha -
I am a volunteer with Angels Among Us Pet Rescue, and formerly the director for the cat adoption program. The Johns Creek Patch proactively reached out to us prior to the first edition to ask if we would like to submit featured rescued pets each week. As time went by, other community Patch editions in North Metro Atlanta have picked up these stories. Angels volunteers have submitted descriptions and photos of over a hundred animals since the publication's inception, and as a result many have found great homes through these promotions. The editors of these online publications have also been very generous about running articles on special topics, such as helping to educate readers about the much dreaded "kitten seasons" and the need for people to spay and neuter their animals. I think it's great that the Patch is giving readers the opportunity to submit photos of their dogs and to help them celebrate the role that these pets play in their lives. We also appreciate all they have done to help us find forever families for our homeless animals. Deborah Smith

Just a short thought to get the word out quickly about anything in your neighborhood.
Share something with your neighbors. Write a new post... What's up? Make an announcement, speak your mind, or sell something
Jeff Young January 26, 2013 at 08:38 pm
Ms. Sears, Clearly, you don't want to engage in a reasoned debate on this issue. When you wroteRead More "let's work together" you forgot to add "so long as we do it my way." If your real concern was removing invasive non-native plants, would you be spending all this time and effort raising money to build expensive bridges and a 31 mile trail?
Jeff Young January 26, 2013 at 08:42 pm
Since our announcement unveiling the PMG web site, I have been waiting to see if anyone from SFCRead More would substantively address the thoroughly reasoned positions and impressive factual sources you will find if you visit the PMG web site. But no, and at first you might think that it’s the few pro-SFC commenters who are the small, but loud minority. However, SFC all along has chosen to work behind the scenes, as though they were trained in Washington politics. They don’t want to face up to neighbor concerns, or new academic research on trails, or even have to provide half-detailed specifications to justify the cost and impact of their grandiose scheme. Could it be they know how to obtain funding and approvals the political way, without the bothersome public? Could it be they know what is good for the rest of us and just need us to shut up? What country is this? Here is an example. SFC managed to get DeKalb County to file a grant application with the State without any public hearing, telling the County Commission that the community supports the SFC connected trail plan, and seeking funds for connecting Zonolite park to their other proposed trails. This contradicted what SFC told MLPA, that connecting trails were not part of the Zonolite work. And, SFC did not tell the Commission or the State about the negative feedback acknowledged in the Park Pride Report. (continued)
Jeff Young January 26, 2013 at 08:43 pm
At that MLPA meeting, PMG’s position was that we would not oppose work confined to ZonoliteRead More that was not for connecting to the larger SFC trail plan, if that was the result of an open process involving the impacted neighbors and businesses. Did we feel snookered by the DeKalb grant application? You bet. So what I say to SFC is: let’s debate this out in the open and have the same sort of dialog we all now expect when the use of property is taken up a notch, whether it’s a for condo, or a road widening, or a re-zoning, or a trail. PMG will keep on sharing facts with decision makers and impacted neighbors until that happens.
