Choosing The Right Coop For Your Flock

Wanting to start a backyard chicken flock, but not sure what type of coop to get, then this class is for you.  Join Joey Zeigler of Zeigler Homestead Services to familiarize yourself with different chicken keeping management styles that will work best for you and your space.  Once you know how you want to keep your backyard flock selecting a coop style becomes much simpler.  This sit-down class will help you determine the best approach for your space and goals. About the Instructor:
From dirt to the dinner table, Joey Zeigler is passionate about local food. Having spent the last ten years honing his urban homesteading skills, he now tends a flock of heirloom chickens and a 2,500 square-foot garden of sustainable goodness.

Joey’s a familiar face at farmers markets and boasts more than a decade’s worth of work experience in the natural food retail industry, from working the juice bar to managing entire stores. He volunteers at Decatur Farm to School and is an active member of the Mushroom Club of Georgia, Slow Food Atlanta, the Atlanta Bike Coalition, and the Wylde Center. In 2012, he participated in the Urban Coop Tour of Atlanta and Joey’s garden was represented on the 2013 Decatur Garden Tour, where this year’s focus was on food gardens.  Additionally Joey was a feature presenter at the annual Chicks in the City Symposium, a one day conference dedicated to keeping backyard chickens in urban and suburban settings.  In 2012 he founded Zeigler Homestead Services, a company that helps folks get real food from their backyards.

Joey lives in Decatur, where he loves to share the joys of gardening and chicken keeping with his wife and children.
