Design Your Edible Landscape

How do I incorporate edibles into my existing landscape? In this course students will learn how to design, install, maintain and harvest from your backyard food forest. Get ready to explore the how to take advantage of your current resources, improve the ones you can, and create a thriving growing space. Get hands-on by designing a sample space, learning how you can apply key permaculture and smart design principles in your own yard.

Topics covered will include learning the basics of planting design, choosing the right plants for the right place, multi-purpose planting, starting with the right soil, identifying microclimates, maintaining an edible landscape, and problem-solving.

L. Daniel Ballard is the owner of Green Thumbs Up, a landscape design service dedicated to cultivating both ecological landscapes and responsible gardeners. He is the former head gardener with the Wylde Center. His background includes both horticulture and education. Daniel lives in the Kirkwood with his wife and three children.
