Immigration Movie Night and Discussion

In light of Georgia’s controversial new immigration enforcement law, which Governor Nathan Deal signed into law in May 2011, and portions of which Democratic state lawmakers say they will seek to repeal, the Virginia-Highland Church Equality Team will host an immigration issues movie night and discussion on Saturday, February 25, at 6 p.m. The evening will begin with a potluck dinner and a screening of the award-winning film “The Visitor.” Then two members of our congregation will discuss their work dealing with issues currently facing immigrants and refugees locally and nationally. Starring Academy Award-nominee Richard Jenkins, “The Visitor” confronts issues of immigration and cross-cultural communication when a middle-aged professor discovers an unmarried couple, both undocumented immigrants, living in the apartment he maintains in post-9/11 New York City. You are invited to bring your favorite dish from your culture of origin or other ethnic dish to share. The evening will be an outstanding opportunity to discuss how we can work on these issues to support and advocate for immigrants and refugees in our area. Please join us.
