Today on GoFundMe: Save Darius, Beat Osteosarcoma

Each Thursday in December, Patch is highlighting an area fund-raising campaign.

Each Thursday in December, Patch is highlighting a local GoFundMe campaign in the area.

Today's focus is "Save Darius, Beat Osteosarcoma," a page created by Darius Jackson, a 23-year-old Georgia State University graduate who majored in Computer Information System but now wants to teach. Excerpts from the fund-raising page:

"Since a young age, I have always had a strong passion for working with the youth, be it my experiences as a summer camp counselor, my volunteer work at my former elementary school, and my recent launch of Young Rosewood, a social club/mentorship organization at my former high school, Southwest DeKalb High, in Decatur, GA.

"This change of heart encouraged me to pass the GACE (Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators) and pursue a career as an elementary mathematics teacher. This summer, months after graduating, my dreams were temporarily sidelined by the unfortunate diagnosis of osteosarcoma.

"I was referred to this site in hopes that I will reach individuals who see my story and will be able to help me inspire others. My passion to serve others is as strong as ever, and through prayer, peace, positivity, and family, I see myself back on track very soon. "

Unlike other crowdfunding websites like Kickstarter, GoFundMe focuses more on helping people fund community or personal goals. GoFundMe is a Patch partner.
