Atlanta police on Friday released a nine-second video of the red Dodge Nitro suspected of hitting an Atlanta cyclist earlier this week in the Morningside neighborhood.

The surveillance video depicts the vehicle traveling down Flagler Avenue in one direction, and then later a cyclist pedals down the street in the opposite direction with the Dodge Nitro following.

Investigators say following a verbal confrontation, the driver of the vehicle pursued and hit Gregory T. Germani before fleeing early Monday evening in what police are calling an aggravated assault.

Germani, who was reportedly dragged 50 feet by the vehicle, suffered severe injuries and is recovering in the intensive care unit at Grady Hospital.

A Fundly account has been established to increase the Crime Stoppers reward for information leading to an arrest of the suspect. See here to donate to that account.

Investigators, who say the driver is possibly a black male under the age of 30, indicate the vehicle may have front-end damage.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS (8477).

Aww Fred knock it off. The important thing is to get word out about this Dodge Nitro. The more the word gets out, the more people who can be watching out for a red Dodge Nitro.

Here's my thinking on this... it looks like the authorities could get their hands on some roaming data from cell phone service providers, and get a list of cell phones and owner account names in that particular cell about that time. And then from Dept. or Motor Vehicle records get a list of owners of a red Dodge Nitro. Between those two lists, the overlap would have to be highly manageable. I know the technology is out there but it needs to be put to good use. And as for concerns about "privacy" - the answer to all that is to keep your nose clean, and you won't ever have a problem...

Well, Sorry, the guy got hurt, you shouldn't use your car to settle an argument. BUT, Those bicycle riders are the most inconsiderate ass's, they think they own the road, they pay no taxes, no tag and insurance, yet they take up the whole road. AND when there is several of them, it takes miles to get around them, only to come up on another bunch of them. AT THE VERY LEAST, make them buy tags & insurance.

Nascarpainter, please do 2 seconds of research before you post that nonsense about bicyclists and taxes and tags, etc... It takes miles to get around them? Please.

Nick M, we have to have patience for the lowest common denominator. Atlanta is full of them.
