Frederick Jenkins and Willie Jenkins have been arraigned on federal charges that they conspired to prepare and file false federal tax returns that claimed over $1 million in tax refunds.

According to United States Attorney Sally Quillian Yates, the charges, and other information presented in court: Since 2006, the brothers owned and operated Global Tax Service LLC (GTS), a tax preparation business with multiple locations throughout the Atlanta area and in other states, including Alabama.

During the tax years under investigation, 2008 through 2011, the Jenkins brothers allegedly prepared and filed false income tax returns for clients. The false items primarily consisted of fraudulent and fictitious business income and losses in order to inflate tax refunds.

Frederick Jenkins, 42, of Atlanta, and Willie Jenkins, 44, of Fairburn, Ga., were arraigned Wednesday before United States Magistrate Judge Linda T. Walker.  The Defendants were indicted by a federal grand jury on May 20, 2014.

Members of the public are reminded that the indictment only contains charges.  The defendant is presumed innocent of the charges and it will be the government’s burden to prove the defendant’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt at trial.

“Citizens trust that tax preparers will accurately prepare their returns,” said Yates in a release. “Citizens also expect preparers to maintain the integrity of the tax system. Tax preparers who abuse the system for their own financial gain will be investigated by the Internal Revenue Service and, where appropriate, criminally prosecuted.”

Only been in this area for 5yrs now & we already got rid of 1 tax preparer because I thought he was doing things wrong but Im not trained in accounting/tax prep, like most people aren't, that's why we hire someone who is. This is what I am always afraid of and I think the tax filer is usually responsible for any problems, penalties & interest that is associated with the false return even though you did the right thing by hiring a professional.
