Jury Selection Underway In Boyer Murder Trial

Opening arguments are expected to begin Wednesday in the trial of the alleged 'Jack Boys' gang.


Jury selection is underway in trial proceedings against four men in the alleged gang-related murder of a Virginia Highland man in late 2010.

Tamario Wise,19; Raphael Cross, 23; Robert Veal, 18; and Fernandez Whatley, 21, are each charged with a variety of crimes outlined in a 90-count indictment, including the murder of Charles Boyter in November 2012.

All four defendents are alleged members of the 'Jack Boys' gang, and also are charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, rape and participation in criminal street gang activity during a Oct. 19-Nov.27, 2010, crime spree.

In addition to Boyer's murder and the rape of a Grant Park woman, the crime wave allegedly included 17 armed robberies and six carjackings throughout the Virginia Highland, Grant Park, Ormewood Park, Lakewood Heights, Old Fourth Ward and Benteen Park communities.

Opening statements are expected to begin on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012.
