News Nearby: Man Shot During Attempted Robbery in Midtown

Monday incident occurred on St. Charles Avenue, just west of the Midtown Place Shopping Center.

A man, who had accepted a ride from a stranger, was shot in the leg during an attempted robbery on Monday in northeast Atlanta.

According to Atlanta police spokesperson Greg Lyon, the early morning incident occurred on St. Charles Avenue, just west of the Midtown Place Shopping Center.

The victim told officers he was walking home from a store shortly before 5 a.m. when a male offered him a ride. After initially refusing, the victim got in the vehicle, and a short time later the driver parked the car on St. Charles to get out and urinate.

After returning to the vehicle, the man locked the car doors and pulled a handgun and told the victim to give him his purse.

According to Lyon, the victim said he was able to get out the vehicle and struggled with the assailant. “The victim was able to hit him with his shoe before he shot him and fled the scene,” Lyon wrote in an email to Patch.

The victim was shot in the left leg and was taken to nearby Atlanta Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition. No arrest has been made and a description of the gunman was not provided.
